This is the big one! Oktoberfest is the world's biggest beer festival. For 18 days around 7 million visitors come to Munich and consume aproximately 6 million litres of beer in 14 giant beer tents.

Yes it is September. But the name is based on the history of the festival (http://www.oktoberfest.de/de/08/content/geschichte0/). The festival has it roots in a horse race to honor the wedding between Ludwig von Bayern and Prinzessin Therese von Hildburghausen. This horse race was on 17. October 1810.
They repeated the race in the following years and with the time, the breweries started to sell the beer, and due to the climat they moved it a litte bit ahead (2 weeks). The last weekend of the Oktoberfest will always be on the first weekend in october.
